Project Summary
The Town of Fort Smith is in the final stages of the 2025 Zoning Bylaw update, a project to replace the Zoning Bylaw 936 which was approved by Council in 2014.
This update will introduce a clearer set of development guidelines that reflect today’s needs and tomorrow’s opportunities.
What's New in This Plan?
- Stronger wildfire protection and environmental safeguards.
- Clearer, simpler, easier-to-understand development rules.
- New tools for modern growth, mixed-use, community planning.
- Protecting Traditional cultural uses and archaeological resources.
- New housing options: tiny homes, secondary suites & caretaker units.
- Recognizing Indigenous Traditional Territories and values.

What can you do?
Read the current draft linked at the top of the page to understand the latest version that will be proposed to council.
Attend the Public Hearing on Monday, September 8th at 6:30PM the Community & Recreation Centre to provide any comments or feedback on the plan, or ask questions.
Our consultant will be there to receive your comments and answer questions.
