The Mayor and Council wish to acknowledge the Town of Fort Smith is located within Treaty 8 Territory. Treaty 8 Territory encompasses the traditional homelands of Salt River First Nation, Smith’s Landing First Nation, and the Indigenous Metis people of Fort Smith.

These Nations have maintained stewardship of their sacred lands since time immemorial. We are mindful that colonization has impacted your sovereignty, and we respectfully recognize our generational histories. We honor your land, knowledge, teachings, traditions, and are committed to striving for unity in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation.
