Important Update – Fire & EMS Dispatch
Fort Smith Protective Services will now be dispatched through Strathcona County Dispatch.
Going forward, all Fire and EMS calls should be made to 867-872-2222 or 911.
The old ambulance number will remain active for the next 12 months while we transition, but it will eventually be phased out. We encourage everyone to start using 867-872-2222 for both Fire and EMS needs.
Ambulance calls should not be made through the Health Centre phone numbers. Calling 867-872-2222 sends your call directly to dispatch so the right responders can be notified as quickly as possible.
911 remains an option for both Fire and Ambulance calling.
This change will help improve response times and coordination, reduce the workload on our responders, and improve safety for both residents and emergency crews. It also means firefighters and EMS personnel can focus on responding to the call, while trained dispatchers handle communications, notifications and coordination behind the scenes.
A huge thank you to our nurses and firefighters who have supported local dispatch for many years. Their hard work and commitment have helped keep our community safe, and we are very grateful for everything they have done.
We’re excited to move to a permanent dispatch solution that better supports our responders, our health care staff and the community.
