PUBLIC NOTICE: FORT SMITH
COMPLETE FIRE BAN IN EFFECT
Effective 5:00 p.m. July 15th, 2026, until further notice.
Daytime high temperatures near 30 degrees Celsius over the coming days increase the chance for wildfires.
To help ensure Fort Smith is not impacted by an unnecessary fire, the Town is issuing a complete ban on all open flame fires, effective immediately.
The following are NOT permitted:
- Campfires
- Backyard fire pits
- Burn barrels
- Brush burning
- Any other open flame fire
Propane appliances may still be used with extreme caution. Keep propane appliances well away from structures, trees, dry grass, and other flammable materials. Always have a water source available nearby.
Vehicles and equipment, including cars, trucks, ATVs, dirt bikes, side-by-sides, and other internal combustion engines, can also start grass fires. Avoid operating these vehicles in wooded areas unless necessary, and stay out of tall dead grass and dry vegetation.
REMINDER: There is currently no threat to the community.
Residents are reminded to always be prepared during wildfire season. Keep your vehicle fueled and have a 72-hour emergency kit and go bag ready.
Thank you for your cooperation and for supporting all responders working hard across the territory.
