Garbage Cart Program

Refer to the graphic at the top of this webpage.

By Friday morning at 7:00AM, your cart must be placed at the end of your driveway at the edge of the road. There must be clearance on all sides of the cart to ensure the garbage truck arm can complete the pick-up.

After collection, ensure your garbage cart is moved away from the roadways to the side or rear of your house.

Garbage pick up is on Friday.

Please ensure your garbage carts are at the end of your driveway, on the edge of the road, by 7:00AM on Friday Morning to ensure your garbage is collected.

The items that can be placed in the garbage carts has not changed from what can be picked up now. Please ensure all household garbage is bagged & the garbage cart can properly close.

Here are some examples of things that can NOT go in the cart:

• Hazardous waste (such as paint or flammable chemicals)
• Animal or human waste
• Construction materials
• Cart parts or tires
• Yard waste & soil
• Scrap Metal

(The above items can be taken directly to the landfill for proper disposal)

Boxes can be brought directly to the landfill, or compacted to fit in a garbage bag that can fit in the garbage carts.

If you wish to re-purpose your garbage bin, ensure that it is moved to your backyard before May 17th, 2026. Garbage bins still at the edge of the roadways will be removed and brought to the landfill.

Residents will be responsible for maintaining their cart and keeping it clean. The carts are durable and can be stored indoors or outdoors. If possible, it should be stored away from direct sunlight.

There is a 50kg weight restriction per cart. Garbage also needs to be properly placed with the lid fully closed.

Your cart is registered to the home, so it stays at the current address. The cart remains property of the Town of Fort Smith.
