Immerse Yourself in Fort Smith, NWT

1. Queens Campground

Set up camp at Queen Elizabeth Territorial Park. Each site is very private, sheltered with trees, and there are picnic sites, toilets, freshwater, a kitchen shelter, showers, electric hookups, a dump station, firewood, firepits and a playground all in great condition! 2. Local History

Need coffee? Or a latte? Nsixty Trading Company is the place to go. They love coffee and want to share their passion with you! Visit their new location and maybe play some arcade games while you’re there!

Head across the street to the Northern Life Museum & Cultural Centre (NLMCC) and engage with the South Slave's history. This historic building was one of the first commercial projects of the area. Originally started by the facilitators of the Catholic Mission, the NLMCC became a way to preserve the stories of the North. On your way out, be sure to stop by the gift shop for hand-crafter souvenirs!

Fun Fact:

With over 17,000 artifacts, the NLMCC holds what is considered among the best collection of northern native and early white settlement material in Canada.

3. Afternoon Outing

Option 1: A Quick Trip to The Market

Venture to the Desnede Farmers Market during from July to September for all things locally grown, homemade, created and crafted.

Option 2: Alpaca Fun!

Visit the only NWT Alpaca Farm with Flat World Alpaca - Check out their products and their Alpacas! To book a visit call: 1-867-872-0243 or email info@fwaf.ca. A typical visit is $10.00/person, kids under 10 are free.  

Option 3: Wood Buffalo? Would I Ever!

Head out on a self-guided hike along the board-walk of the Karstland Trail in Canada’s largest National Park – Wood Buffalo National Park (WBNP). Explore and learn about sinkholes, karst topography and more. With over 44,000km² of wilderness to explore, WBNP offers the perfect venue for an afternoon outing with breath-taking views of the boreal forest around every bend.

4. Dinner

For dinner ask for Anna’s famous Steak Sandwich at Anna’s Home Cooking Restaurant and enjoy dinner on the sunny patio. Call 872-2582 to order take-out.

5. Evening Entertainment

Option 1: A Night Out at Dirty O’Fergies

Visit the local watering hole Dirty O’Fergies. Wing Wednesday, Karaoke Thursdays and the occasional live music makes O’Fergies a hotspot for residents

Option 2: Sunset Birdwatching over the river

Witness the midnight sun dip over the horizon from the best vantage point in town. Walk the trails on the edge of town down to the “Rapids of the Drowned”. Watch the American White Pelicans fish and swim in the rapids of the Slave River in the bountiful evening light.
