The Town of Fort Smith is reminding drivers that a new school year means increased foot traffic around school zones.
School is back in session, and that means our school zones are busy with children, parents & teachers.
The Town of Fort Smith has installed pedestrian crossing signals in high risk areas to further alert drivers of the presence of pedestrians. If you see the lights flashing, slow down!
Remember to slow down to 30 km/hour in school zones and watch for kids.
Put your phones away and stay focused.
And never pass a bus if lights are flashing!A message from our Mayor:
“As the school year begins, let’s remember that our children’s safety depends on all of us. Whether you’re driving, biking, or walking, please slow down, stay alert, and follow the rules in school zones. A few extra seconds of caution can make all the difference in getting every student to and from school safely.”
- Mayor Dana Fergusson, Town of Fort Smith
