Public Notice: Fire Ban Lifted – Fire Restriction Now in Effect
The Town of Fort Smith has lifted the full fire ban. A fire restriction is now in place.
This restriction does not apply to approved backyard fire pits.
Under the fire restriction:
- All existing fire permits are cancelled
- Fireworks and exploding targets are prohibited
- Sky lanterns or similar devices are not allowed
- Flare-style bear bangers may only be used in active wildlife emergencies
- Propane and briquette BBQs are permitted
Approved backyard fire pits must meet the following conditions:
- Built from non-flammable materials
- Located at least 3 meters away from any structure
- No more than 1 meter in diameter
- Fire must not exceed 1 meter in height
- The area around the fire must be clear of combustible materials
