Mayor's Message: Memorial Service Offers Community Support

The following message contains reference to a tragic event and may bring up difficult emotions.

To the residents of Fort Smith, past and present,
Over the past year, the Town of Fort Smith has experienced moments of growth and togetherness as we have supported each other through difficult times and moments of loss.

January 23rd is on the horizon, and it should be recognized that this date carries an impactful meaning. A year ago, six valued residents of Fort Smith lost their lives, and several families were forever changed.

As this date approaches, memories may resurface, and emotions can feel overwhelming for many of us. If you or someone you know is struggling, please remember that local mental health resources are available through the links below. Seeking help is a sign of strength, and no one must face these feelings alone.

To support healing and reflection as a community, there will be a public event:
Candlelight Memorial Service
Saint Johns Anglican Church
Thursday, January 23rd
Starting at 6:30PM

We invite you to join us for a Candlelight Memorial Service to honor the lives lost and reflect on the strength that unites our community. Remember that even in our hardest moments, we are stronger together.

Mental Health resources and supports are available at: https://www.nthssa.ca/sites/nthssa/files/resources/fort_smith_mh_sheet.pdf

For a medical emergency call 911. For the Suicide Crisis Helpline call 988.

Sincerely,
Dana Ferguson
