What is a Development Permit?

It ensures that all projects meet safety, environmental, and community standards.
Here are a few items that require a development permit:
• Any Construction: Placement or movement of any building or structure.
• Excavation: Deposit or movement of soil or other materials.
• Land Use Changes: Any change in the use or intensity of land or buildings.
• Signs: Any sign larger than 0.4m² (4 ft²).
How to Apply for a Development Permit:
1. Visit: Drop by Town Hall or visit us online at www.fortsmith.ca.
2. Complete: Fill out the application form and pay the applicable fee.
3. Submit: Provide detailed plans for your project.
4. Wait for Approval: Do not start work until you receive approval
