The Town of Fort Smith is proud to support the development of green initiatives across our community and even prouder to share the following facts:
- The Town of Fort Smith decreased Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 43% in 10 years! We were at 30,000 tonnes of GHG Emissions in 2008 and lowered that number to 17,000 tonnes in 2018.
- 1/3 of the energy used throughout in community, in 2018, was produced through renewable energy sources like hydro power, wood & pellet stoves and solar panels!
- The Taltson Dam produces 76,400 Gigajoules of energy every year! That’s like burning through 152,800 BBQ Propane Tanks in 12 months, or 418 tanks every single day!
Small successes in sustainability, like these, are stepping stones for Fort Smith to eliminate the dependency on fossil fuels and become a renewable energy hub of the north!
