Join us where the wild whoopers roam, in Fort Smith, NWT!

This festival is focused on celebrating the land of the whoopers — Canada's Northern Boreal forests.

The Wood Buffalo/ Aransas flock is the only migratory whooping crane flock left on Earth, and their nesting grounds near Fort Smith mean you'll be closer to the elusive birds here than anywhere else on the planet. This is the place they choose, and for 3 nights, you can too.

Take excursions to the Salt Plains and Fort Fitzgerald, walk the land with local knowledge-keepers, and sit in on talks that bring together academic research and the lived experience of elders and nations who've called this territory home for generations. This year, we're joining forces with the TAWBAS Dark Sky Festival, so your days of crane-tracking and cultural learning stretch into evenings under some of the darkest, clearest skies in the country.
