The Town of Fort Smith is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Public Works Labourer to support the Public Works team as an integral member of the municipal workforce.
OUTLINE OF THE POSITION
Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor, the incumbent will be required to perform all none and semi-skilled tasks associated with labourer duties: cutting grass, flagging, loading equipment, repairing fences, janitorial, cleaning streets, removing garbage, using manual tools, laying pipes, digging, etc.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Ride back of garbage trucks, collect and load refuse on garbage trucks
- Sweep debris and shovelling snow from streets, sidewalks, building grounds and other areas, loading snow and debris into carts or trucks.
- Shovel cement and other materials into cement mixers, spreading concrete and asphalt on road surfaces using shovels, rakes and hand tampers
- Snow removal from signs and solar panels on street crossings
- Spread sand or salt on sidewalks for snow and ice control.
- Dig ditches and trenches using shovels and other hand tools.
- Operate jackhammers and drills to break up pavement.
- Load and unload trucks with supplies and equipment.
- Vacuums, shampoos, and spot clean rugs and carpets in offices, and other work areas and other facilities at the municipal services garage
- Assist in maintaining and cleaning the vehicles and equipment.
- Coverage at the landfill as a landfill attendance
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Maintain and hold a Valid Class 5 NWT Driver’s License
- Grade 10 or equivalent education
- WHMIS 2015 certification
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Experience with hardware, tools and warehouse equipment.
- Basic knowledge of small to heavy equipment and electric fences
- Ability to use various hand tools, grass cutting equipment etc.
- Ability to read and write to record daily records
- Time and stress management skills
- Willingness to perform labour related duties
- Experience in Public Works is an asset
- Shift work in the evenings, weekends and holidays may be required.
- Physically strenuous and demanding, lifting, pulling, and managing equipment and objects will be required
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Pay Level/Range: Level 12 ($64,985.95- $73,978.45)
- Northern Allowance paid in addition to base salary
