The Town of Fort Smith is seeking an experienced and motivated individual for the position of a Lifeguard for a part time permanent. Reporting to the Aquatic Program Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for the public safety of all patrons through proper supervision and adequate discipline. This position also requires that the quality of water is maintained to ensure the safety of the patrons. Lifeguard shall work as part of a team committed to the quality, maintenance and care of the Fort Smith Pool and its programs.
OUTLINE OF THE POSITION
The Lifeguard assists in providing proper supervision and maintaining adequate discipline in the aquatic facility. The Lifeguard also helps ensure water quality is safe for patrons by testing the pool water every four hours and the hot tub every hour and recording the results in logbooks. Additional responsibilities include completing cleaning duties outlined in the daily cleaning schedule, answering patron inquiries in person or over the phone in a professional manner, learning and following the required roles, responsibilities, and etiquette of a lifeguard, and performing other job-related duties as assigned by the Aquatic Lead.
The incumbent is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of Fort Smith Recreation and Community Centre pool patrons, maintenance and cleanliness of the pool facility and maintenance of skills in the application of life guarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
EDUCATION & SKILLS REQUIRED
The Lifeguard is expected to have the following education, work experience and skills.
- Minimum age of 15.
- Possess current Bronze Cross/ Medallion certificates, CPR-C and First Aid.
- Knowledge of Pool emergency procedures and application of lifeguarding and CPR skills.
- Lifesaving Society Public Aquatic Facility Standards.
- Willing to enter high temperature environments (up to 90 Celsius) for short periods.
- Willing to work in high humidity environments.
- Able to engage repetitive motions and lifting and bending as part of regular duties and training.
- Be able to work where there is a constant background noise >60db.
SALARY & BENEFITS
Hourly rate of $20.77 and 6% vacation pay.
