RFT Summary: Wilderness to Field Vegetation Reduction – FireSmart (Tender #26-007)
The Town of Fort Smith is seeking bids for a FireSmart vegetation reduction project covering approximately 5.4 hectares between the Wilderness subdivision and Field Street. The project is designed to reduce wildfire risk by thinning forested areas, prioritizing the removal of flammable coniferous trees, reducing ladder fuels, and retaining fire-resistant deciduous species where appropriate. In addition, contractors must create a 10-metre-wide fuel-free buffer along the rear property lines of developed properties on Calder Avenue and Field Street by removing trees, mulching vegetation, and preparing the area for future maintenance with a deck mower.
The successful contractor will be responsible for all labour, equipment, debris removal, timber management, burning permits, site restoration, and cleanup. Work must be completed by November 31, 2026, with at least 50% completion required within two months of contract award or the contract may be cancelled. Contractors must hold a valid Fort Smith business licence, liability insurance, and be in good standing with WSCC.
Tender Closing: August 17, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. local time. The contract will be awarded based on best value, with timely completion considered a critical evaluation factor.
