Officials gathered to say goodbye to the 64 kilometer gravel section of Highway 5 and welcome visitors to use the fully paved road!

The 2017 summer construction has converted this section of the road from a gravel surface to a hard chip seal surface.
As the only all season-road spanning Wood Buffalo National Park and connecting the communities of Fort Smith and Hay River, Northwest Territories, this investment will result in an improved level of service, essential for tourists, visitors, RV travellers, supply trucks, and local residents who use the road regularly.
