Re: Fort Smith General Public Post-Wildfire Evacuation Return Date

On behalf of the Town of Fort Smith Mayor and Council, please be advised that the return date for the General Public has been confirmed as Monday, September 18th, 2023, at 8:00 am. At this time the Evacuation Order will be changed to an Evacuation Alert. The State of Local Emergency and Evacuation Alert will be reviewed by Town of Fort Smith Protective Services and Council on Thursday, September 21st at 11:00 am.

Please be aware upon return to the community, that wildfire structural protection will remain in place at Bell Rock and surrounding areas outside of the municipality. Road closures and area restrictions will be in place along highway corridors until further notice.

Posted highway traffic speeds have been reduced from Salt Mountain to Fort Smith. Please travel safely in areas where firefighters and crews are working.
