Thebacha and Wood Buffalo Dark Sky Festival

 

The annual Dark Sky Festival is a celebration of the return of dark skies to our northern latitude (60°N) and is hosted in the world's largest Dark Sky Preserve, Wood Buffalo National Park.

At the Dark Sky Festival we do not just look at stars, we try to answer your questions about science through fun and interactive activities.  For kids there is the Circus of Science and the Science Academy events, while adults can enjoy guest speakers and workshops.

Slave River Paddlefest

 

Paddlefest includes lots of activities for both particpants and spectators – come joinin or watch the whitewater events, try out our instructional clinics, join our community feast, learn Dene traditional games, try paddling in a raft or duo kayak, or go on a guided hike to learn more about the local area.

Paddle Your Way - Wood Buffalo NP Canoe program

Join us every Saturday at 1:00 pm!

Paddle your way through the crystal clear waters of Pine Lake and experience Canada’s most iconic mode of transportation: the canoe. Canoes, paddles and portable flotation devices are all provided. Spend a relaxing Saturday afternoon on the lake.

Basic swimming skills are required and children must be accompanied by competent adult swimmers.

*This activity is weather-permitting. Equipment provided.

Campfire Program at Wood Buffalo NP

 

Every Saturday starting at 6:00 pm at Pine Lake. The cost is FREE!

Gather round the campfire with interpretive staff or an indigenous storyteller at Pine Lake on Saturday evenings. Share a story, a song and a snack with your comrades travelling from near or far. Enquire at the Visitor Information Centre or watch for the Parks truck at the Pine Lake campground.

Join us for our annual Canada Day Parade followed by fish fry, games and entertainment in Riverside Park!

 

Xplorer's Program - Wood Buffalo NP

Join us Sundays at 1:00 pm, call the Visitor Information Centre to register 872-7960. The cost is FREE!

The Parks Canada Xplorers’ Program is an exciting opportunity for youth to connect with nature and culture. Explore Wood Buffalo National Park with an interpretive guide and try new activities on select Sundays throughout the summer. Parks Canada Xplorers’ are rewarded with a chance to get to know Wood Buffalo National Park, as well as a special activity booklet, dog tag and certificate at the end!
