Mountain Portage Rapids

Mountain Portage Rapids

Join us at our favourite "Playground" in the summer! From June to October, the rapids at Mountain Portage are some of the most accessible on the river. These rapids are a favourite spot for whitewater kayakers and beach bums alike.

The sandy beaches in the bays surrounding the rapids are a great gathering place for local swimmers and sunseekers. While in the early summer mosquitoes are kept at bay by the breezy shores of the river, the late summer makes this spot absolutely perfect with warm weather (and warm water), long nights and virtually bug free (at least by Northern standards).

Mountain Portage is also a nesting site for the white pelicans. In the summer, visitors can see these magnificent birds fishing in the turbulent whitewater and soaring high above the river.
