Welcoming Wrigley Evacuees

Type(s)
News Release

To the people of Pehdzeh Ki / Wrigley,

Fort Smith is ready for you, and you are welcome here.

We know this isn’t easy. Leaving your homes on short notice without knowing the date you will return is something we haven’t forgotten from 2023. We remember the communities and people who showed up for us. Now it’s our turn.

When you arrive in Fort Smith make your way to the Fort Smith Centennial Arena. Registering here is how we make sure you are accounted for and so we can connect you with the resources and supports. There will be a place to sleep, food and people ready to help for as long as you need to be here.

To the people of Fort Smith, over the coming days, you’ll see new faces around town. When you do, say hello. Offer a hand. The kind of welcome we hoped for is now the kind of welcome we can extend.

Our staff and volunteers have been working to make sure we are ready and I’m proud of how quickly this community comes together when there are people in need.

To everyone affected by the fires across the territory, Wrigley, Fort Simpson, and those watching from afar, our thoughts are with you.

Mayor Dana Fergusson
