Until further notice The Town of Fort Smith is initiating a fire ban on all “open fires”. Open fires includes campfires, warming fires, fireworks, trash and debris, but does not include gas bar B Q’s.
With the hot weather, high winds, and the potential for extreme fire behaviour this fire Ban shall remain in effect until further notice. The Town of Fort Smith appreciates your cooperation.

Are you leading an innovative arts-based project that addresses mental health, crime prevention, urban development, economic growth, diversity or poverty reduction? Do you have critical lessons to share with your peers from across Canada?
If so, the Michaëlle Jean Foundation and the Carleton University Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences invite you to present your project at the first-ever Power of the Arts National Forum: Advancing Social Change, slated for September 27-29, 2013, in Ottawa. There, over 150 Canadian policy makers, academics, community leaders, artists and activists from across Canada will gather to design strategies to enhance the power of the arts to improve the quality of life in disadvantaged Canadian communities.
If interested, we invite you to submit a 500-word summary of your proposed presentation to the Forum Steering Committee, which will select nine presentations to be introduced at the actual Forum. Your submission should address the power of the arts in at least one of the following areas:
- Community and Urban Renewal
- Diversity and Social Inclusion
- New Technologies and Social Change
- Mental and Physical Health
- Democratic Participation
- Economic Development and Social Enterprise
- Cultural Institutions and Community Integration
- Public Safety and Access to Justice
- Voice and Identity
Your proposal must be sent to pflegel@fmjf.ca no later than 5 p.m. on June 10, 2013.
Once selected, the Forum Steering Committee will invite you to submit a paper, a PowerPoint presentation, or the outline of an artistic presentation that you would present for up to 20 minutes during one of the workshops at the National Forum on September 28, 2013. If you have any questions or require additional information, do not hesitate to contact Peter Flegel by email at pflegel@fmjf.ca or by phone at 613.562.5468.
