photo by Jessica CoxThe Fort Smith Volunteer Fire Department is a group of dedicated volunteers who are trained to respond to structural fires and motor vehicle accidents, and to provide support to forest firefighters in the case of wildfires.
The fire department follows the nationally-respected fire etc. curriculum, which is the standard training program for fire departments across the NWT, to train its members.
The fire department’s responsibilities are outlined in Fire Protection Bylaw 365. The department has regular training exercises on Wednesday evenings. Darren Linaker is the chief of the fire department.
