Trails, parks and playgrounds
There is no shortage of outdoor activities to pursue in and around our beautiful community, regardless of the season.
Fort Smith has dozens of hiking, cycling, snowshoeing, and skiing trails, as well as trails for dog teams, snowmobiles, and off-road vehicles. We are also part of the Trans Canada Trail.
Axe Handle Hill is a municipal park within the community, and nearby there are two territorial parks. Also, Fort Smith is the gateway to Wood Buffalo National Park, the largest national park in Canada and home to the world's largest herd of free-roaming wood bison and the only known nesting site of whooping cranes.
The Town maintains several children’s playgrounds, which serve as outdoor gathering places for many young families in our community.
