Golfing

Golfing is a favourite activity in Fort Smith during the summer months. The community is served by two 9-hole golf courses.

The Pelican Rapids Golf and Country Club is located on the banks of the Slave River just outside of town and is open May through September. This challenging par 36 course has beautiful and forgiving grass fairways. Artificial greens installed in September 2009 provide a putting experience similar to the grass greens found on the best courses in southern Canada. Water hazards come into play on three holes.

The licensed clubhouse is situated to view the ninth green and the number one tee box. The first tee box also features a large deck overlooking the Slave River where you can relax and watch pelicans and kayakers. Green fees are $15 for 9 holes or $20 for 18. Club and cart rentals are available. There are no tee times to book; there is a friendly ‘walk-on’ policy. For more information phone (867) 872-GOLF.

The Blue and Gold Golf Course is par 27 and is situated right in downtown Fort Smith on the RCMP grounds. Built in the 1940s, this is the only RCMP golf course in the world. Members of the RCMP are responsible for the upkeep of this unique course. Admission is free, and course scoresheets are available at the RCMP detachment during regular business hours.
