Community garden

photo by Jessica Coxphoto by Jessica CoxFort Smith upholds its reputation as the Garden Capital of the North with an active community garden located downtown in Fort Smith Mission Historic Park. Local gardeners today grow all kinds of vegetables and flowers on land that was once used by missionaries to grow vegetables to help feed the community. In fact, the rather large community garden is a small plot of land compared to the historic garden, which surrounded the Bishop’s residence building and extended north and south, covering the land where St. Joseph’s Cathedral and the Fort Smith Health Centre now stand.

The community garden is operated by the territorial department of Industry, Tourism and Investment as a part of Fort Smith Mission Historic Park. For more information, please contact Tina Pischinger at (867) 872-6439.
